Changing Habits!

Changing Habits. It takes us 90 days to change an old habit into a new way of working or thinking. We have 3 simple steps for you to follow to help you combat some of those not so useful habits: Step 1 = Acknowledge it: Accept to yourself that what you are doing is a bad habit and not helping you move forward. Generally, its not something that is born into you, but a pattern of behaviour you have repeated enough times for it to become normal. So the first step is to acknowledge the habit you’d like to change and that it is something in your direct control to change. Step 2 = Analyse it: This is where we get a little deep. Analyse the habit and ask yourself why you think you do it… what happens before and after you do it that may perhaps make you want to do the habit. How does the habit make you feel? Is it a good or bad feeling? If good feeling then what can you do to substitute the habit to create that same positive feeling? Step 3 = ACTION change: This step can be the least comfortable for us, but the most empowering! When we make a decision to take action to change a habit, it can feel uncomfortable, unnatural, and uneasy. This emotional (and often physical) reaction is perfectly normal as we are breaking a pattern of behaviour. Imagine I was to ask you to change the hand you use when brushing your teeth every morning… it’d feel odd wouldn’t it! The key to breaking through this discomfort and unease is by repeating it time and time again… repetition will begin to transform the old habit into a subconscious change of behaviour and then, after around 90 days of repetition, a brand new way of working or thinking! Give it a go, and please let us know how you get on!!!!
