Budget Insurance

Our brief

Leaps and Bounds were asked to become a catalyst for change for a tired and stale training department.

Our approach

To start the process we designed a three-day foundations of insurance course for motor insurance to be included for all new recruits as the mainstay of their induction. The programme was themed on a detective story with delegates acting out characters in a crime scene. A sample of the tasks delegates had to complete was to decide who was responsible in a major insurance incident and the only way they could do that was by exploring information for themselves on the legal aspect of insurance, claims procedure and risk. There was input from resident experts (just as a detective would call in expert witnesses). Many participants had very basic schooling, no qualifications and were threatened by the thought of exams.

Key outputs

Drop out from induction was reduced by 42% and passes from the exam were increased from 67% to 98%. This programme was used to model further enhancements to induction, which lead to the programme being the first innovative in-house programme to be accredited by the CII.

We then spent time with their internal trainers (15 people) to transfer the skill in-house to ensure they could keep momentum throughout all the internal programmes.
